  • The University of Mines is Russia’s oldest
    higher education school devoted
    to engineering. It was founded
    on October 21 OS (November 1 NS) 1773
    by Empress Catherine II. Thus the brainchild
    of Peter the Great and Mikhail Lomonosov
    to train Russian specialists
    for mining was materialized.

  • The University has excellent
    research facilities and well-equipped
    laboratories for studying advanced
    mining and processing technologies,
    the use of mineral resources,
    and the development
    of country resource portfolios.


  • The University of Mines in Saint-Petersburg
    is one of the exemplary higher
    education institutions in Russia.

St. Petersburg Mining University has taken the 15th place in the area "Engineering - Mineral and Mining"   by the assessment results of the authoritative international ranking agency QS World University Rankings (Great Britain). The University has also been included in the TOP-50 world best technical universities.  The ranking was published on March 8, 2017.

The Mining university is going to develop cooperation with the Higher technical school of industrial engineers of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The agreements have been achieved during the working meeting of the first Vice Rector Natalya Pashkevich with the director of the Spanish higher education institution Emilio Minguez Torres.

The Rector Vladimir Litvinenko and the President of the Indian society of coal preparation Raj Kumar Sachdev had the working meeting devoted to the organization of the International Congress of coal preparation. The forum will take place in 2019 in New Delhi (India).

The delegation of the largest Chinese national oil company China National Petroleum Corporation headed by the vice-president Wang Tye Dzhunom visited the Mining University. Within the visit the guests acquainted with infrastructure of the university and held a working meeting with the rector Vladimir Litvinenko.

Prince Michael of Kent was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the St. Petersburg Mining University. The ceremony was held within the visit of a member of the British royal family to the oldest technical university in the country. It was dedicated to the starting year of science and education of Great Britain and Russia.

Arkady Dvorkovich, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, paid a working visit to the Mining University. Accompanied by Vladimir Litvinenko, the Rector, he took a tour around the University visiting, among other places, the Mining Museum and a number of new classrooms and laboratories.
