The Mining University: one of the best in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The University of Mines is now one of the leading higher education institutions of Eastern Europe and Central Asia by estimate of UK’s Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd (QS), one of three most reputable dedicated international rating agencies. The updated ratings of higher education institutions of the two regions (University Rankings EECA-2015) were presented in Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Turkey, following a thorough expert analysis of performance of over 500 higher education institutions from over 30 countries.

Traditionally, their place on the top list depended on such factors as the number of students and teaching staff, internationalization, publishing capacity, as well as the efficiency of online resources as assessed by Webometrics. The parameters that mattered most in the development of rating scale were comments about universities and their reputation in academic community (30%, 28 455 comments) and with employers (20%, 7935 comments).

The EECA-2015 short list included 150 best higher education institutions of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, in particular, with 48 presenting Russia, 16 presenting Turkey, 14 presenting Kazakhstan, 12 presenting Poland and 10 presenting the Czech Republic. It bears mentioning that QS had previously published the ratings of higher education institutions of BRICS countries for 2015, with the Mining University improving its status by 30 points as compared with 2014.
