Students from the Paris Higher Mining School (MINES ParisTech) visited the Mining University. The visit of the French engineering students was part of the traditional exchange program between the two higher schools.

10 students from France arrived in St Petersburg. Like in previous years, the authorities of the Mining University arranged an intense program for the students. It included a tour round the oldest technical higher institution of Russia as well as visits to a number of industrial enterprises, such as Kirovsky Zavod and shipbuilding plants in Kronstadt.

The main purpose of the visit was to study specific features of training and educational process that are typical for the Russian higher school and the Mining University. The guests from France noted that “along with fundamental methods of teaching the Mining University applies special educational programs. It is quite interesting for us to get information about them and to learn new material in some subjects”.

According to the program the delegation visited laboratories of the Oil and Gas Faculty and Department of Geoecology, Center of Engineering Survey and Mining Museum. The lecturers of the Mining University told the French students about research carried out by scientists of the Mining University and international events held by University.

Students from St Petersburg are planning to make a return visit to Paris in spring this year.

•  The Paris Higher Mining School (MINES ParisTech) was established on 19 March, 1783 on order of the French king Louis XVI in order to provide underground mines with managing staff. Nowadays it reports to the Ministry of Industry. The main goal of the School is to train elite engineering staff primarily for the power and mining industries. The School is part of the Mines-Télécom Institute specializing in IT research as well as power engineering and construction.
