The Mining University was included into a hundred of the world’s top universities
According to the results of the QS World University Rankings assessment, among 100 world’s top universities, teaching "mineral and mining engineering", there are three Russian Universities: the National Mineral Resources University "Mining University", Gubkin University and St. Petersburg State University.
In 2016, several new categories were added to the ranking of the world’s top universities in various disciplines, in particular, “mineral and mining engineering ", made by British consulting agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) annually. The Mining University took the 58th place among higher educational institutions, training students in this sphere with a score of 66.3 out of 100 possible.
The rating was based on the question of the academic community (50%) and employers (20%), on the University publication analysis (15%) and Hirsch index value assess (15%). The last one is a characteristic of a scientist or scientific organization productivity, based on the publications and citations number. According to the QS Agency, in 2016 in the sphere of "mining" 2846 representatives of the academic science and 477 employers were interviewed. Publication activity was estimated by the number of articles in Scopus citation database on such specialties as Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, and Petrology, as well as Oceanography.
403 universities from 54 countries of the world competed for the right to get in this QS category. Among the leaders of the rankings there were Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford Universities, Cambridge and Oxford, Berkeley and The TU Bergakademie.
