A scientific and practical seminar "Application of modern electric exploration technology inprospectingmineral deposits", every year gatheringforemost geophysicists from Russia, Canada and other countries,has been finished at the Mining University.

The seminar was devoted to discussion of problemsof development of theoretical bases and technologies of electrical exploration methods, sharing experiences in conducting exploration and geotechnical work. The theme of the forum having been relevant in previous years has become even more topical now. The reduction in market value of hydrocarbons priori led to a reduction of investment in prospecting and exploration of deposits. Thus, to simplify and reduce the cost of work in this area (that often has to be done in difficult to reach places with tough climatic conditions) is not just an economic challenge of specialized companies, but a basis for sustainable development of our society. After all, according to forecasts of most analysts in the next few decades, mankind still will provide itself with energy, mainly due to mineral raw materials.

Traditionally, both scientists and delegates of companies producing electromagnetic equipment that is used in geophysical studies take part in the seminar.Among them –the authorities of "PHOENIX Geophysics" (Toronto, Canada), a world leader in the export of equipment employed during the magnetotelluric sounding.

Opening the event, University Vice-Rector for Research, Vladimir Trushko, emphasized that the Forum "has long been an authoritative event for geophysicists." He said it was encouraging that "there are a lot of young professionalsat the meeting, and they will definitely be interestedinlistening to reports of outstanding professionals." "Our university conducts a large amount of research, including the development of electrical exploration technology. I am sure that the possibility to exchange opinions is very important for all those present, because it broadens the mind and gives a more clear understanding of the most sought-after areas of research ", - concluded his speech the Vice-Rector.

The President of "PHOENIX Geophysics", Leo Fox, and its Vice President, Olex Ingerov, in their report highlighted the latest trends in search techniques of conductive ore bodies in fault zones. The representatives of Canadian science also noted that the trend of recent years is miniaturization of electric survey instrument that is necessary to search for mineral deposits. Today, two people on a snowmobile can move it, if they attach a medium-sized sledge.  The high mobility of such groups and the accuracy of the equipment, which is boosted with every new generation, are the main reasons for increasing the efficiency of this method.

In total, during the plenary and breakout sessions more than 70 paperswere presented. Among the topics under participants’discussion there were such fields of concern as the use of modern electromagnetic methods in the search for hydrocarbon deposits forcontinental and continental shelf conditions, processing and interpretation of electrical prospecting and seismic data in prospecting for hydrocarbons, development of theoretical bases, software application and methods of interpreting the results of electrical exploration techniques and a number of others.
