The University’s multi-purpose complex Linguistic Centre has opened its doors to teachers and students who want to improve their foreign language proficiency. The main goal is to increase the competitiveness of the University in the market of academic exchange by forming an adequate multilingual environment.

The Mining University Language Centre will be able to train about 200 people at a time. They will be divided into small groups, depending on the degree of proficiency in English, French or German. The programs are designed for both for beginners and for advanced users who aim for perfection.

The task of the leading teachers of St. Petersburg Mining University Department of Foreign Languages and a number of other higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg will be pre-university training services to external students, as well as improving the skills of the teaching staff, students and graduate students of the University. Another important function of the center is testing of the University staff to determine the level of their foreign language proficiency. It is a well-known fact that language proficiency is one of the factors influencing the involvement of the University representatives in international conferences and seminars, overseas work experience internship, academic exchange programs and intergovernmental research.

The classrooms are equipped with all the necessary multimedia equipment required for foreign language training. We offer 72-hour programs (2 days a week for 2 academic hours). The course is designed for one academic year and includes class work as well as students’ individual work.

Rector Vladimir Litvinenko has repeatedly stressed that one of the most important challenges this university is facing is successful competition in the market for academic exchange. The construction of the multi-purpose complex enabled the University to reach a new level of competitiveness in this area. It hosts major international conferences, houses visiting professors from foreign universities, and experts sent for cooperation in scientific and educational spheres. Refresher courses, including foreign language courses are the components of a successful solution of the task and a prerequisite for integration into the international academic community.
