In return for the contribution to training specialists in the mineral resources sector of Mongolia, Saint-Petersburg Mining University has been honoured with a decoration of the highest degree – “Polyarnaya Zvezda” (“Polar Star”). Mister Ts. Bayarsaikhan, the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, attached it to the University Flag during a meeting of the Academic Board.

“Polyarnaya Zvezda” is awarded to soldiers, officers, workers, public servants and other categories of citizens who achieve significant success in Mongolia’s defense capacity building, its national economy, culture and healthcare development. “Specialists who graduate from the oldest higher technical educational institution of Russia play a major role in sustaining progress of Mongolia’s ore mining industry.

This award means recognition of the University’s contribution by our people, government, and country”, noted Punsalmaagiyn Auchyrbat, the first President of Mongolia, Saint-Petersburg Mining University’s alumnus and graduate of 1965.

There are a lot of foreign students at Saint-Petersburg Mining University. This year, 48 students are from Mongolia, apart from those who study at the Faculty of Pre-University Training – 474 students. Natalia Pashkevich, First Vice-Rector, opened the ceremonial presentation of “Polyarnaya Zvezda” and reminded that a number of professors from the Mining University received various awards from this neighbouring state. For instance, Vladimir Trushko is Hornoured Power Engineer of Mongolia. She also highlighted that cooperation with Mongolia in the field of education and science proved its effectiveness and will certainly be continued.

Mister Ts. Bayarsaikhan, the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, was of the same opinion. Speaking from the rostrum in the conference hall where the special meeting of the Academic Board took place, he expressed his confidence that “our relations will thrive and remain to be the basis for the mining science and industry development”.
