Students, postgraduate students and faculty of the University annually participate in various international competitions for grants and scholarships for training in foreign partner universities.
Priority competitions:

  1. Double Degree Master’s program
  2. Exchange education

In 2013 about 200 students of the university (all forms of study) have participated in exchange programs with foreign universities, which lasted at least for one semester.

During the last year, more than 150 postgraduates of the university took part in trainings and advanced trainings at leading specialized universities and companies. In 2014 there are plans to send up to 200 people for training.

In 2013 about 230 international students participated in exchange programs at the Mining University. The training courses were held in various educational forms including e-learning.

Double Degree Master’s program

The Cooperative Education Program is an educational program developed and implemented by two partner universities ( both Russian or Russian and foreign ones), assuming obtaining  degrees (qualifications) of the two universities by graduates who have successfully completed the program, with issuing  relevant documents on higher education (diplomas, certificates) in this area.
Double Degree Master’s program allows students not only to gain the necessary knowledge, but also to confirm their competence with diplomas from two universities in Russia and Europe, which significantly increases the chances of successful employment in our country and abroad. A first-year master's program student is simultaneously enrolled at two universities, with the first year of training taking place in Russia, and the second in Finland (in the English language).
The Double Degree is an important confirmation of comprehensive training for successful employment, for which there is the teaching staff of the leading universities of Russia and Finland, internationally recognized and trusted among employers.

Who can apply for participation in the program:
• 5th -year students 
• 1st- year masters
• 1st- year post-graduate students

Admission to the program

  1. A letter of recommendation from the Dean and Head of Department
  2. Knowledge of English, confirmed by an IELTS certificate (with an overall band score of 6)
  3. ‘Good’ and ‘perfect’ academic performance
  4. Participation in research work

Candidates for training are selected on the basis of interviews conducted in 3 stages.

Stage 1 - selection of candidates on the faculty level in view of the results of their academic performance and the level of English language proficiency in the candidate’s specialty.

Stage 2 - interview with representatives of Universities.
Stage 3 - selection of documents submitted by candidates to the University Admission Commissions.

Required documents:

  • supporting document of English proficiency
  • a copy of the Certificate of Secondary Complete General Education , a copy of the Transcript of  academic record  (3rd-4th year)
  • a copy of the Bachelor's Degree diploma with Official Transcript (5th year)
  • a copy of the Specialist’s Degree Diploma with Official Transcript (postgraduates and graduates)
  • Curriculum Vitae (in English only)

All documents must be translated into English and 2 copies submitted.


The Mining University actively and successfully participates in competitions for scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD.
Each year, 10-15 postgraduate students and young scientists from the University take part in training at Germany’s leading universities, on the following programs:

  • The ‘Mikhail Lomonosov’ program
  • The ‘Immanuel Kant’ program
  • Research scholarships for young scientists


Exchange education

Program FIRST- Russian- Finnish program of student exchanges
Exchange education is a program of student exchanges, i.e. temporary assignment of a student in a foreign higher education institution for the purpose of building broader knowledge of their specialty, provided by the basic educational program. Education at a foreign university gives students an important academic experience. Moreover, the language skills acquired during a period abroad greatly expand students’ opportunities to secure a prestigious job after graduation. In the framework of exchange education, students of the Mining University have the opportunity to study for one semester at the following universities in Germany, Austria, Poland, France and Finland:

Students (except those in their first and last years) are usually assigned for exchange education no sooner than the third and no later than the last year of study, on the condition of good academic performance. Exchange education does not lead to the prolongation of the basic higher education program. Academic credit transfer is carried out in accordance with the Mining University’s rules for training.

The maximum duration of continuous training abroad - 1 year.

Requirements for applicants:

  1. English language proficiency (certificate is desirable)
  2. Good academic performance (average grade -  4.5 at least)

Required documents:

  • an application form for participation in the program with the Dean’s resolution;
  • a cover letter;
  • a character reference and recommendation letter from the head of the administering department approved by the Dean of the Faculty;
  • an academic transcript (or a copy of the record-book - number of hours specified);
  • a passport valid for at least three months after the end of the trip.

The selection of participants for the exchange education program is organized by Deans of Faculties in accordance with the academic specialty of candidates for the trip abroad, level of language proficiency, academic performance, interests of the appropriate parties, terms of cooperation agreement, scholarship, the program of international cooperation, the international project.
