Brief historic overview

The Department of System Analysis and Management is a research and academic division of the National Mineral Resources University. The department was founded on 20 August, 2012 by Order № 796 of 17.08.2012, by merging the Department of System Analysis and Innovation Management with the Department of Management Processes and IT systems of the Economics Faculty.

The department offers students the following degrees: Bachelor’s degrees in academic specialty 220100.62 System analysis and management, 220400.62 – Management in engineering systems, 220201.65 – Management and computer science in engineering systems, and Master’s degree 220100.68 – System analysis and management.

The department trains postgraduate students in the following specialties: 05.13.01 – System analysis, management and information processing, and 05.13.06 – Automation and industrial processes and production control.

The Department of System Analysis and Innovation Management originated from the Department of Theories and Principles of Forecasting of the Northwest State Technical University, which was established in 1994 for Bachelor’s degrees, and in 1999 for Master’s degrees in specialty 220100.62, System analysis and management.

The Department of Management Processes and IT Systems started work in 1960 as the Department of Automation and Electrical Measuring Instruments and Equipment at the Northwest State Technical University. In 1964 the department was renamed as the Department of Automation and Telemechanics. In 1998 it was renamed again as the Department of Management Processes and IT systems.

The Department of system analysis and innovation management with department of management processes and IT systems became a part of the University of Mines after the merge with North-West State Part-time Technical University.

The Department has been training Bachelors in system analysis since 1994 and staff engineers in Management in Engineering Systems since 1960.

Currently the Department has 19 staff members:

  • 5 professors;
  • 9 associate professors;
  • 1 senior lecturer;
  • 4 assistant lecturers.

The Department is unique in that it has two Honorary Workers of Higher Education of the Russian Federation (Professor Pershin I.M., Associate Professor Afanasieva O.V.).

In 2012 the department trained:

  • 1 Doctor of Technical Science (Trushnikov В.E.);
  • 1 Candidate of Technical Science (Ilyushin Y.V.);
  • 12 Masters in System Analysis and Management.

The Department trains students in the following degree subjects:

  • Master’s 220100.68, System Analysis and Management in the following programs:
    • System analysis of organizational management in large systems;
    • Theories and mathematical methods of system analysis and management in technical and social-economic systems;
