Brief historical overview

The department was created in 1965 on the initiative of the outstanding mathematician and Head of the Department of Higher Mathematics, Professor A.M. Zhuravsky.
The great methodologist, leading expert in the field of calculus and Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, associate professor R.E. Soloveychik, was the founder and became the first head of the department.
1965-1976 - Department of Calculus and Computer Technology.

General information

Since its foundation, the department has been training students of all specializations and fields, giving them computing and programming skills. It coaches the university team for the programming world championships and holds Olympiads (competitions) in computer science for University students. The department staff supervise students’ scientific projects, which often receive awards at annual conferences and presentations.
The department created a Center for Modern Information Technologies, the Cisco Networking Academy, for training University students and IT specialists of the mineral and raw complex in the following courses: IT Essentials, CCNA Discovery, CCNA Exploration and CCNA Security in Russian and English, and the department also prepares students for the international certification of CompTIA A +, EUCIP Core, CCENT, CCNA and CCNA Security.
